Booking your first prenatal visit is one of the most meaningful milestones of early pregnancy — and it's completely normal to feel a mix of excitement and nerves. Knowing what to expect turns that nervous energy into confidence.
When should you book?
We recommend scheduling your first visit between weeks 6 and 8 of pregnancy, counting from the first day of your last period. Earlier is always welcome if you have questions, a medical condition, or simply want reassurance.
What happens at the visit?
Your midwife will take a full health history, confirm your pregnancy, estimate your due date and check your blood pressure, weight and urine. Depending on how far along you are, you may also hear your baby's heartbeat — a moment many mothers tell us they never forget.
Just as importantly, this is your time to ask anything. No question is too small: morning sickness, safe foods, exercise, travel, medication — write your questions down beforehand so nothing slips your mind.
How to prepare
Bring your ID, any medical records you have, a list of medications or supplements you take, and the date of your last period. Wear something comfortable, and bring your partner or a support person if you'd like — they are always welcome at Mum and Me.
Above all, come as you are. Our role is to walk beside you from this very first visit to your baby's first birthday and beyond.
